Une maison orange avec une architecture typiquement alsacienne

The collection of buildings

80 buildings representative of rural Alsace

An outstanding collection of traditional houses, dismantled beam by beam in their original locations and reconstructed at the Écomusée d’Alsace.

Don’t be shy! Push open the door of every house you come to and go inside to see a faithfully reconstructed interior, a craftsman’s workshop or even a stable!

Place des Artisans

Place des Artisans is a strategic point in the Écomusée d’Alsace – it’s where you’ll find the Disney carousel, much loved by kids and also the barber’s house, the forge, the pottery studio, the wheelwright’s, the saddler’s, the fisherman’s house and the winemaker’s house.

Place des Charpentiers

On place des Charpentiers, you’ll be able to see the famous model of a ground plan, which shows how the wooden frame of a traditional half-timbered house was assembled. Around the square, you’ll also see the Maison des Goûts and des Couleurs, the stained-glass window artist, La Taverne restaurant, the Sternenberg farm and the Hausgauen beehive, among others.

In and around the Fortified Tower

The Mulhouse Fortified Tower can be spotted from afar and sits between the Renaissance and mediaeval gardens. Around it, you’ll find the wash house, the Rixheim house, the oil mill, the Gommersdorf house and its jetty, the rampart trail, the beach, the Artolsheim house and also the Hégenheim inn.

Around place de l’Éden

This is the industrial part of the museum, showing how industry came into Alsace. Here’s where the Monswiller worker’s cottage is to be found, along with the rating office of Riquewihr, the Nymphée waterfall, the craft microbrewery, the station and the sawmill.
